 1.  Freestyle Kicking Tips

-start with a drive at the hips

-power builds through your thighs, shins, and ankles to your toes

-should a be smooth, comfortable, relaxed movement

-keep kick no deeper or wider than your width of your shoulders

2.  Butterfly Kicking Tips

-a good kick starts with flexibility (ankles, calf muscles, hips, and thighs)

-should be strong and powerful

-kick in both directions with great speed and acceleration and with equal force

3.  Breaststroke Kicking Tips

-think long and strong, but comfortable

-try to minimize the number of kicks per lap

-always aim to accelerate through the kick (legs together)

-think “back, down, and around, and squeeze”

The Benefits of an Effective and Powerful Kick
