 SPMA COACH OF THE YEAR

 To all my Masters swimmers-

There is no greater honor that can be given to a coach than the recognition by his swimmers and peers.

Thank you for those who submitted letters of support for the SPMA Coach of the Year Award.  This award is given out each year at the SCY Regional Meet.  I was surprised and greatly honored to receive this award at the meet last weekend.

I will continue working towards helping you feel competent and confident in your abilities to reach your goals and maximize your performances by building endurance, strength and improved health and fitness in a social and fun team environment.

Thank You.

Coach Mark

SPMA Coach of the Year

Training Sets

Following is a brief summary of the various categories we use to define our training sets.

ENDURANCE – the purpose of endurance training is to allow you to swim faster for a greater length of time while the lactic acid accumulates in your muscles at a slower rate.

SPRINT- the purpose of this kind of training is to improve swimming speed.  There are two types.  One is developing the power and increased speed for the less than 30 seconds     and to help you take your races out faster.  The other type is one that one encounters at the end of the race.  Training will improve your body’s ability to buffer the acidic build-up in your muscles and your mind’s willingness to tolerate the pain.

WARM-UP and RECOVERY – Any non-speed-specific swimming, used for warm-up and recovery, swimming/kicking/pulling.

We will train all systems with focus on aerobic, VO2, pacing, endurance and stroke technique. We focus this summer is to have all our swimmers attend the USMS National Championships in August.

I hope that you will fully participate in the training process, the more you are engaged in this process, the more successful you will become in reaching your goals.
