NEW USMS SWIMMER MAGAZINE
TO ARRIVE IN MARCH
There is a new
magazine coming to the USMS Masters swimming community in March 2005, when
United States Masters Swimming (USMS) and Douglas Murphy Communications (DMC) of
Richmond, Virginia will celebrate the arrival of USMS SWIMMER
Magazine. The launch of
SWIMMER
represents a major
change in USMS’ communications efforts, as well as the swimming publishing
world.

Breaststroke - Timing and Rhythm is King
Kicking Power, Upper Body/Head Position, Arms Acceleration, Extension and Streamlines, Breath Control, and Pull downs and Breakouts
I look for heads to be inline with the spine, looking down and not forward. I look for explosive hands and kicks so there is time to get into the streamlined position on each stroke. I want the head to go underwater after the kick by at least 1-2 inches, but not more. You must finish each kick. The rear rises as the head and chest press down. One fact is that for every inch the head rises the hips sink two inches, greatly adding to the drag. You must keep the head in line with the spine, looking down. Do these things until you get it right.

Words from Coach Mark-
"Be not the slave of your own past - plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience, that shall explain and overlook the old."
Ralph Waldo Emerson (a well known swimmer!)
