Santa Clarita SCM Meet

 

The Santa Clarita short course meters meet will be held on Saturday, November 5th. The day will start off with a 1500 for the distance swimmers, followed by additional warm-up, with the remainder of the meet starting at noon. 50s, 100s and 200s of all strokes are offered, along with 100, 200 and 400 IM, and 400 free, and 200 mixed free and medley relays.

 

The pre-entry postmark deadline is Saturday, October 29th. There is a flat fee of $20 for this meet. Deck entries are available for a total of $30.

Watermarks - A Swimming Movie Debut

 

 

An upcoming documentary Watermarks, will be shown on Cinemax at 7:10 am on 11/8.

 

The Hakoah (“The Strength” in Hebrew) Vienna Sports Club was formed in 1909 in response to the infamous “Aryan Paragraph” banning Jewish athletes, which was adopted by most Austrian sports clubs.  The Hakoah quickly became a formidable club -- the women’s swim team dominated many national Austrian competitions and competed in the 2nd Maccabiah Games.  One of the swimmers was set to represent Austria at the 1936 Olympics, but decided not to participate rather than compete in Nazi Berlin.  As punishment, she was permanently banned from competing and stripped of her awards, her records erased from the books.  In the wake of Hitler’s occupation of Austria, thousands of people were forced to flee the country.  Among them were the champion female swimmers of the legendary Hakoah Vienna Sports Club, who did not see each other again for 60 years.  An uplifting tale of community, courage and survival, Watermarks tells their stories, and chronicles their moving reunion.
